Minutes from August 1 General Meeting

Sorry things aren’t in complete sentences, I figured
that I had procrastinated enough already and wanted to
get these minutes sent out.

Present:
Yana, Marina, Milly, Folki, Bera, B.A., Daniel

Next General Meeting is Monday Sept 12, 7:30pm at
Espresso Royale in Urbana (look for us in the upper
area, we’ll try to grab it this next time). Since the
next General Meeting happens after Labor Day, and
there are a lot of things coming up before then,
please keep an eye on the discussion list and the
website for more information.

We have new officers:
Yana—Seneschal
Marina—Pursuivant
Milly—Minister of Arts and Sciences

We are investigating meeting places, particularly for
A&S workshops, potlucks, and other such get-togethers.
Urbana Free Library looks very promising.

Exchequer report: sent to the discussion list already.
Basically, we are okay, moneywise, although we could
always use more. If you have any receipts for
reimbursement, talk to Bera.

Items of discussion, in a somewhat chronological
order:

Photo Board party
In preparation for Quad Day, we will be having a
"party" in order to put together a photo board and
other assorted decorations/handouts/etc. for our Quad
Day table. It will be on August 22 at 7pm at Yana’s
house (7 Fisher Ct in Urbana). Email
(seneschal at wurmwald.org) or call me (217-239-4196) for
directions, sometimes it is tricky to find.

Quad Day
Happens on Tuesday August 23, from 10am to 3pm(?), on
the University Quad (the day before classes start). We
have a space again this year, thanks to Bera and
Margarita. We will be sharing the table with a few
other Medievally-oriented groups in town, notably
Regia Anglorum and the Ren Faire. We need people to
sign up for an hour or two, be friendly and talk to
people, and hand out flyers. Contact the seneschal
(seneschal at wurmwald.org) for more info or to
volunteer.

Ren Faire
Happens over Labor Day weekend (Sept 3-5) at Ellsworth
Park in Danville. Wurm Wald will be participating
again this year and will set up the group pavillion.
Marina is contacting the area’s SCA groups to let them
know what is going on and see if they want to
participate, since the Ren Faire would love for us to
do a fighting demo, and we have no local fighters, as
far as we know. If nothing else, this is a great
recruiting opportunity for us (and the other SCA
groups) so please email the seneschal and volunteer
some time (free admission for volunteers
). Think of
hand-crafts to demonstrate and keep yourself occupied
with. You can even camp overnight in the pavillion if
you wish to do so! We’ll be talking more about this on
the discussion list, since we won’t have another
General Meeting before the Ren Faire happens.

Post-Quad Day
We will be having an A&S/Intro to the SCA night
(probably on Sept 6,7, or 8) so that we have some sort
of follow-up for the people that show interest on Quad
Day. Marina is looking into getting us a room at the
Urbana Free Library, which is easily gotten to from
campus and will also let us bring our own food, which
is always nice to introduce new people to. Start
thinking of interesting, SCA-appropriate stuff to demo
to new people! Keep an eye on the discussion list and
website as to when/where things are happening.

Bardic Circle
Sometime before it gets too cold, at Folki’s.

Inventory/Clean out the Attic Day
Likely early October, when the bulk of the Summer
events are over and people are fully recovered from
Pennsic (hey, it takes awhile). Folki and Bera have
graciously agreed to continue housing Wurm Wald’s
stuff, but we need to sort and weed it! We’ll be
inventorying all the SCA stuff that is in Folki and
Bera’s attic, cleaning, mending, and repackaging the
lot. This is likely to be a multi-weekend undertaking,
but the more hands we have, the quicker it will go!
More info closer to October.

Maidens
Event steward is Folki. Since we lost (or had it taken
away from us, depending on how you look at it) the
Chancellor hotel, the most promising location is the
Lincoln Historic Hotel (formerly Jumer’s) located in
Urbana attached to Lincoln Square Mall. We’ll know
more after Pennsic. We have a separate discussion list
set up for Maidens planning, which anyone can join. Go
to <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/maidens/> to sign
up. You don’t have to be a member of the planning
group to ask questions or give input, the group is
just intended as a ccnvenient way for people to
communicate.

Upcoming Non-SCA Events of interest:
Sept 22-23 TFBO (The first big one) Jefferson City,
MO <http://www.vikingsna.org/tfbo/>
Norman/Saxon.Viking event. A Battle of Hastings
reenactment and a Stamford Bridge reenactment. Check
the website for further details.

Sept 30-Oct 2 Harvest Moon Rendezvous and Festival, La
Crosse, IN. I’m not sure if I got the right event
listing, but this is where I found it:
<http://www.indianafestivals.org/october.html>

Oct 7-9, Farmer City, IL Annual Scarecrow Festival.
This year’s festival has a Renaissance theme, and
features some fighting demos put on by the Dagohir and
Belegarth groups.

There are probably things I’ve forgotten, but I’ll
post them as soon as I realize them. See you at the
Photo Board Party!
