[WurmWald] Lenten Social -- Sunday April 9

So, in lieu of our usual Arts and Science day where we
get together at the Urbana Free Library, we're going
to instead meet at my place ('cause we currently have
no where else to meet) and cook and eat and socialize!

At the Feb meeting we chose to do Lenten food, in part
because the timing is perfect (it's the Sunday before
Western Easter) and because there are a lot of great
Lent -friendly medieval recipes out there. As for what
foodstuffs we will be using, in the iddle Ages, it
really depends on what time-frame you're talking
about, so I'll leave it up to the individual cook to
determine what is "Lenten." Generally, meat (but not
fish), milk, butter, and cheese are considered things
to abstain from. But since we're eating on a Sunday,
which was usually considered a Feast day, even during
Lent, I think we can be flexible. But do try to stay
in the spirit of things, just for fun's sake.

So, basically, we need to figure out what we are
cooking and who is coming. People will need to RSVP,
but only so that we all know what amount to cook. And
I'd like to know how many people to expect, since my
place isn't huge. But I'm sure we can all squish in.

So...recipes. Take a look at the websites below to
start. If there is a dish you'd like to make that you
can't find a recipe for, let me know and I'll look
through my cookbook collection.

RSVP. Just let me know if you are planning on coming
and how many of you there will be. Cooking starts at
2:00 (unless there are dishes that need to be started
earlier) and eating will start as soon as Court is
over (just kidding), sometime around 5:30. I'll give
you directions to my place when you RSVP.

We need to figure out something about donations or
Shire reimbursement for food and paper plates and
such. Bera, can you find out if we can use any Shire
funds for this, since all Shire members are invited?
At the meeting, we set a $100 budget, but in looking
through the Exchequer handbook, I couldn't find out
anything about local-expenditures involving food.

Okay, let the discussion begin!
