I am in Champaign. I goto Danville because the VA Hospital is there.

Welcome to Wurm Wald! So, are you in Champaign-Urbana, or Danville? Or
elsewhere?

Hmm, Fighter practice. Currently, it looks like we have lots of people
who are interested, but no actual "leader" type figure. I know that
Jamie (sorry, can't remember your SCA name) was interested in becoming
Knight's Marshal a one time, but I haven't heard from him for a bit.
Jamie? Hello? Anyone?
Basically, think that everyone who is interested in getting a
Fighter's Practice going locally needs to raise their hands on this
list and figure out when is a good time to meet, and then actually
meet. The weather is still fairly decent for outside practice (lots of
good local parks are available, as is the University Quad), and we
have time to find an inside space if the Fighters get organized soon.
We can also invite some Marshals from surrounding groups to visit us
get the local Fighters started (you need an actual Marshal to hold an
official SCA practice). I know that St Carol (Charleston area) has
regular Fighter pracices (Can you answer this, Cass?).

Someone here may know of a local that does this (I don't). If not, I
would suggest that you post to the Middlebridge (Kingdom-wide
discussion list: http://www.midrealm.org/middlebridge/) or Fraser's
Oak, the Regional discussion list
(http://themidlands.org/mailing_list.html). And then maybe share what
you found out?
Hope this helps!
